ALBERT DANIEL “HOPPY" CASSIDAY, 87, of Mattoon, IL formerly of Charleston, IL passed away at 4:10 P.M. on Sunday, August 12, 2012 at his daughter’s residence in Mattoon, IL.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Wednesday, August 15, 2012 at the Edwards Funeral Home, 221 East Main in Arcola, IL. Rev. Melvin Shaw will officiate. Burial will be in the Dodge Grove Cemetery in Mattoon, IL. Visitation will be from 11:00 A.M. to service time at the funeral home.
Albert was born on September 28, 1924 on the family farm in Coles County. He was a son of Daniel and Martha (Pearcy) Cassiday. He was married to Elizabeth Ferguson in October of 1945.
He is survived by four children, Alvin Cassiday of Charleston, IL, Karen Pruitt (Jim) of Mattoon, IL, Ronald Cassiday and Randall Cassiday (Brenda Powell) all of Charleston, IL; one grandson, Todd Boswell of Louisville, IL and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by six brothers, four sisters, one grandson and special friend Merle Ohm.
Albert was a member of the Local 171 Laborers Union of Charleston, IL for over 55 years.
He enjoyed spending time on his farm with his “toys”. His greatest joy was spending time with his children and grandson.
Memorials may be made to the Coles County Animal Shelter or Lincolnland Hospice.
