Alice Rose Connour

Alice Rose McAvene Connour, 94 of Tuscola, IL passed away at 2:00 AM on Tuesday, December 10, 2024 at The Haven of Arcola.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, December 15, 2024 at the Edwards Funeral Home, 221 East Main St., Arcola, IL. Rev. Rich Knofsky will officiate. Burial will follow in the Arcola Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM on Sunday at the funeral home.

Born July 10, 1930 in Arcola to Leo John and Nora Elizabeth (Tackett) McAvene. She married Charles C. Connour on March 19, 1961. He passed away on November 16, 2020.

She leaves behind a sister, Mary Linda McAvene Lock of Tuscola, a sister-in-law, Helen Daugherty of Mattoon, a stepson, Dennis Connour of Urbana, and nephews, Steve (Wanda) Daugherty of Plainfield IN, Mike (Sue) Daugherty of Portage MI, Mark (Beppe) Dowell of Newman IL and Michael (Tammy) Dowell of McDonough GA.

Preceded in death by her husband, parents, sister, Patsy Dowell, and nieces, Kelly Lock and Nancy Daugherty and brothers-in-law, Bob Dowell, Lyle Lock and Frank Daugherty. 

Alice graduated from Arcola High School in 1948. 

Alice and Charles lived in Illinois, Indiana, Arizona but spent most of their life in the Dallas/Ft Worth area of Texas before returning to Illinois after retirement. They graduated from Auctioneering School together and enjoyed over 40 years in the business, capping these years by owning a very successful auction house in Texas. Alice was a proud member of the Texas Auctioneer Association. She enjoyed reading, crocheting/knitting/sewing and taking care of their many schnauzers over the years. She was an excellent cook, always searching for new recipes to try.
