Biography

ALMA SCHROCK, 90, of Arthur, IL passed away at 6:30 P.M. on Sunday, January 4, 2015 at the Arthur Home.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, January 9, 2015 at the Arthur Mennonite Church, 718 E. Park St. in Arthur, IL. Rev. Glen Rhodes will officiate. Burial will be in the Arthur Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9:00 A.M. until service time at the church on Friday. The Edwards Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.

Alma was born on April 6, 1924 in Arthur, IL. She was a daughter of Yost J. and Tillie M. (Miller) Schrock.

She is survived by two brothers, Yost Schrock Jr. and his wife Ella of Sarasota, FL and Levi Schrock and his wife Norma of Elkhart, IN; one sister, Anna Miller and her husband Wilmer of Elkhart, IN; two sisters-in-law, Marie Schrock of Arthur, IL and Cora Schrock of Goshen, IN and many nieces and nephews.

Alma was preceded in death by two brothers, Raymond and Simon Schrock; four sisters, Hilda and her husband Alvin Yoder, Lizzie Ann and her husband Joe Helmuth, Gertie and her husband Levi Beachy and Rachel and her husband Jonas Yoder and nephews, Willard Ray Helmuth and Richard Yoder.

Alma was a member of the Arthur Mennonite Church where she enjoyed doing all kinds of mission work.

Alma went to work at Progress Industries in Arthur, IL in 1941. She worked in the casket division, first in the hardware room and then she quickly became a painter. She worked for Progress for nearly 40 years, right up until they closed. Later she worked at Schrock’s Cabinets and then she went to work at the Arthur Casket Company. After retiring Alma cleaned homes just to have something to do.

Alma enjoyed quilting, crocheting and embroidering. Alma always loved to go on family outings and she just simply enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

Memorial may be made to the Arthur Mennonite Church.
