ALVIN LEE DIXON, 81, of Humboldt, IL, passed away at 8:04 A.M. on Wednesday, October 14, 2015 at the Arcola Health Care Center.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, October 17, 2015 at the Edwards Funeral Home. Pastor Aaron Boothe will officiate. Burial with military rites will be in the Humboldt Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral. The Edwards Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Alvin was born on March 23, 1934 in Humboldt, IL. He was a son to Theodore Leslie and Goldie Clara (Gardner) Dixon. He married Wanda Hampton on January 23, 1960 in Mattoon, IL. She passed away on April 15, 1988. He later married Vera Postlewait, she precedes him in death, he then married Nancy Addis and she also precedes him in death.
He is survived by four children, Lydia (Nate) Beeson of Greenup, IL, Ted (Donna) Dixon of Mt. Vernon, IN, Robin (Bob) Leach of Charleston, IL, and Alvin (Amy) Dixon Jr. of Humboldt, IL, two step-daughters, Vicki Spriggs of Stockton, CA and Paula (Mike) Chism of Mattoon, IL, 22 grandchildren, Holly (Bo) Hardiek of Toledo, IL, Mallory (Josh) Baker of Evansville, IN, Lacy Hubbartt and special friend Nate Riney of Toledo, IL, Nathan (Carla) Beeson of Mattoon, IL, Lacey Beeson and special friend Zach Boyle of Sullivan, IL, Bailey (Kalen)Whitney of Sullivan, IL, Danielle (Matt) Allen of Mt. Vernon, IL, Briana (Scott) Cook of Charleston, TN, Nicole Dixon of Mattoon, IL, Mason, Emilee, Andrew and Isabelle Dixon all of Mt. Vernon, IN, Bobby Leach of Charleston, IL, Amber Gray of Charleston, IL, Kayla (Chad) Lewis of Troy, MO, Stephanie (Jesse) Shonkwiler of Monticello, IL, Davina Schisler of Humboldt, IL, Jeri (Jim) Moffett of Ashmore, IL, Jodi (Derrick) Collins of Stockton, CA, Heather (Mark) Santos of Charleston, IL, and Summar (Wade) Smith of Mattoon, IL and 32 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three wives, one brother Joseph Dixon, one sister Norma Grant, and one son-in-law, Bobbie Spriggs.
Alvin had been a member of the Christian Church in Humboldt, IL and he was a member of the Walnut Grove Christian Church in rural Arcola, IL.
Alvin was an Army Veteran.
Alvin worked at Clark’s Foundry in Mattoon for 13 years until they closed; he then worked at Trailmobile in Charleston while serving as Chief of Police in Humboldt, IL. He later served as a Coles County Sherriff’s Deputy under Paul Smith. Alvin retired in 1995 with over 20 years of service as a shift supervisor for Hurst Security at USI.
