Antonia Ruiz

Antonia Ruiz, 83, of Arcola, IL passed away at 4:55 PM on Monday, February 3, 2025, at her residence. 

Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Friday, February 7, 2025 at the Edwards Funeral Home, 221 East Main St., Arcola, IL. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, February 8, 2025 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Father Michael Trummer will officiate. Burial will be held at a later date in the Magdalena Municipal Cemetery in Magdalena, Jalisco, Mexico.

Antonia was born on June 13, 1941 in Tequila, Jalisco, Mexico. She was a daughter of Geronimo Castaneda Banuelos and Maria Rivera Banuelos. She married Felipe Ruiz on June 13, 1957 in El Salvador, Jalisco, Mexico.

She is survived by her husband, Felipe Ruiz of Arcola, IL, 10 children, Herminie Ruiz and her husband Francisco Guevara of Mexico, Avelina Ruiz and her husband Lauro Ponce of Mexico, Francisco Ruiz and his wife Damaris Ortiz of Arcola, IL, Alfonso Ruiz and his wife Maria Guadiana Ruiz of Arcola, IL, Miguel Ruiz and his wife Estela Medina of Arcola, IL, Zenaida Ruiz and her husband Ipolito Patino of Arcola, IL, Antonio Ruiz and his wife Maria Covarrvbias of Arcola, IL, Catalina Ruiz and her husband Melesio Caro of Mexico, Felipa Ruiz and her husband Martin Corona of Arcola, IL and Maria Ruiz and her husband Rigoberto Leal of Arcola, IL, 46 grandchildren, 45 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild, 4 great great great grandchildren, and 1 sister, Maria Benitez of Mexico. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, and two babies, Julia and a stillborn child. 

Antonia was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. She enjoyed gardening, planting flowers, daisies, petunias and peonies being some of her favorites. She loved to cook, clean and care for her family, especially her grandchildren.
