Biography

BERNICE G. MARLOW, 86, of Arcola, IL passed away at 5:42 A.M. on Saturday, November 23, 2013 at the Arthur Home in Arthur, IL.

Funeral service will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Tuesday, November 26, 2013 at the Edwards Funeral Home. Rev. Vince Rohn will officiate. Burial will be held in the Dodge Grove Cemetery in Mattoon, IL. Visitation will be held from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Monday, November 25, 2013 at the Edwards Funeral Home.

Bernice was born on August 19, 1927 in Lerna, IL. She was a daughter of Jess and May (Whalen) Stewart. She married Newman E. Brown in 1945 he passed away in 1949. She later married Thomas E. Marlow on June 25, 1988 in Arcola, IL after dating since 1966.

She is survived by her husband, Tom Marlow of Arcola, IL, two daughters, Nadean “Polly” Knipe of Tampa, FL and Linda Gaarder and her husband Ron of Tucson, IL; four sons, Thomas H. “Pete” Marlow and his wife Lynn of Fisher, IL, Jeffrey A. Marlow and his wife Patty of Sullivan, IL, David E. Marlow and his wife Alicia of Hartland, WI and Paul W. Marlow and his wife Judy of Auburn, IN; fourteen grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren; one nephew, Bud Miller and his wife Betty of Mattoon , IL; one niece, Patty Jo Hicks of Findlay, IL and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

Bernice was preceded in death by her parents, an infant brother, her first husband and two sisters, Laverne Miller and Mildred Hite.

Bernice graduated from Lerna High School in 1945 as Valedictorian. She helped her dad farm during WWII. She would later go to work at General Electric in Mattoon, IL and work there until she retired in March of 1990 with over forty-one years of service.

She was a member of the Arcola United Methodist Church, Methodist Women and she was member of the Red Hatters Club. She was a beautiful seamstress and she was a very generous person.

Bernice and Tom have spent winters in Tucson, AZ for the past twenty-three years and have many good friends there.

One of her greatest joys in life was spending time with her family especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Arcola United Methodist Church.
