BONNYE JEANNE DAVIS, 90, of Decatur, IL formerly of Arcola, IL passed away at 7:00 A.M. on Thursday, November 23, 2017 at Imboden Creek Living Center in Decatur, IL.
Memorial service will be held at 12:00 P.M. (Noon) on Wednesday, November 29, 2017 at the Edwards Funeral Home, 221 East Main St., Arcola, IL. Pastor Steven Stern will officiate. Burial will follow in the Arcola Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to The Humane Society of Decatur and Macon County, to the animal shelter of your choice, or to the Alzheimer’s Association.
Bonnye was born on June 30, 1927 in Decatur, IL. She was the only daughter of Merrill Kirby and Louise (Boyd) Fleming. She married Charles “Chuck” Davis on October 22, 1948 in Morganfield, KY. He passed away on April 8, 1993.
She is survived by three daughters, Nancy Jo Rickey and her husband Lance of Decatur, IL, Sandra Sue Bright and her husband Marc and Rebecca Ann Chapman and her husband John; four grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Chuck, as well as her much loved friends, Mary Katherine Sears and Marietta (Tubby) Daugherty of Arcola, cousins Delbert and Martha (Babe) Albers of Arthur, and her cat, Maggie.
Bonnye had been affiliated with the Arcola United Methodist Church when she lived in Arcola.
Bonnye worked as a Registered Nurse in Douglas County for 35 years. She served as an RN at Jarman Hospital in Tuscola, IL for 30 years. She delivered many babies there, and OB was her favorite part of Nursing. She also served as an RN at Douglas Nightingale Manor in Tuscola, IL and We Care Nursing Home in Arcola, IL. She retired from nursing in 1990, but she remained a nurse at heart. She was an associate member of the Decatur Memorial Hospital Alumni Association and enjoyed going to functions with the other retired nurses. She also spent a lot of time hanging out at the Nurses Station at ICLC during her time there.
After her husband passed away she worked at the Emporium in Arcola, IL for 7 years. She enjoyed working there and getting to meet and talk to lots of people. She moved to Decatur, IL in 2000 and enjoyed traveling and RV camping with her son-in-law’s mother, Margie Rickey. They visited France, Hawaii, Ireland, Scotland, Nova Scotia, Alaska and attended a Rose Bowl Parade. She belonged to the “Four Wind Winnies Camping Club”. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society, and enjoyed going to their luncheons and events. She loved to have fun and loved her friends and family.
Bonnye was a big Chicago Cubs, Illini and Arcola Purple Rider fan. Purple was her favorite color and she wore it often, even after moving away from Arcola.
Bonnye’s family would like to give special thanks to the caring staff at Imboden Creek Living Center who helped to make her smile and laugh during her stay there.
