Carol Ann Smith, 76, of Mattoon, IL, formerly of Humboldt, IL passed away at 10:55 PM on Monday, December 9, 2024 at The Harmony Center in Mattoon, IL.

Private services will be held at a later date. The Edwards Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.

Carol was born on December 15, 1947 in Mattoon, IL. She was the daughter of Paul and Eleanor Jean (Orndorff) Jones. She married John Tig Smith on February 20, 1966 in Mattoon, IL. He passed away on October 6, 2023.

She is survived by her three sons, Jon Smith and his wife Stacy of Humboldt, IL, Doug Smith and his wife Jodi of Villa Grove, IL and Andy Smith and his wife Katrina of Mattoon, IL, six grandchildren, Alec Smith and his wife Macy of Mattoon, IL, Lauryn Smith of Humboldt, IL, Regan Smith of Villa Grove, IL, Blake Smith of Villa Grove, IL, Ryker Smith of Mattoon, IL and Keely Smith of Mattoon, IL, and her first great grandchild Coleson Smith of Mattoon, IL. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her infant brother, and an infant grandson, Kalel Smith.

Carol retired from her own salon after working as a hairdresser for many years. She enjoyed and loved all of her clients.

Carol was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Mattoon, IL. Carol enjoyed activities with her husband including attending car shows, the Friday night cruise nights, and spending time with her special friends, Dave and Darlene McFarland. She loved to travel with them as well. 

However, above all else, spending time with her children and grandchildren brought her the greatest delight. She took great pride in not missing any of their sports endeavors and extracurricular activities from drag racing to dance competitions, from football to track, she was their greatest cheerleader. Carol was a gentle soul but fiercely loved her family. She lit up a room with her joyful spirit and infectious laugh. She will be missed dearly. 

Special thanks to the Harmony Center and their loving and caring staff. They took wonderful care of Carol, showing her so much love and compassion.
