CAROLYN D. DONNELL, 68, of Mattoon, IL formerly of Humboldt, IL passed away at 12:23 P.M. on Thursday, February 9, 2012 at her residence in Mattoon, IL.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Monday, February 13, 2012 at the Edwards Funeral Home, 221 East Main in Arcola, IL. Rev. Derold Doughty will officiate. Burial will be in the Humboldt Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. on Sunday, February 12, 2012 at the funeral home
Carolyn was born on August 14, 1943 in Mattoon, IL. She was a daughter of Henry Marion and Louise M. (Hilligoss) Helm. She had been married to J. Tom Donnell, He survives.
Other survivors include three children, Deena Schauer and her husband Brian of Carol Stream, IL, Robert Donnell and Daniel Donnell both of Humboldt, IL; two grandsons, Jacob and Joshua Schauer of Carol Stream, IL; one brother. Fred Helm and his wife Wilma of Humboldt, IL; six sisters, her twin, Marilyn Eastin and her husband Dean, Peggy Poorman and her husband Dick, Eva Sue Spence and her husband Mike, and Lesley Jo Niemeyer and her husband Dave all of Humboldt, IL, Ginger Mills of Neoga, IL and Shelly Tingley and her husband Rick of Ankeny, IA and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Henry Marion Helm Jr., Thomas Lee Helm and Kenneth Michael Helm, one sister, Teri Lynn Helm and a brother-in-law, Bill Mills.
Carolyn had worked in physical therapy at the Odd Fellow-Rebekah Home in Mattoon, IL for several years. She was a licensed Massage Therapist. Carolyn was a pioneer in bringing message therapy to the area. She was very instrumental in establishing the Veterans Memorial Wall of Honor at the Humboldt Town Hall. She had been a Girl Scout Leader of Troop 218, back in the 70s, she was very active in voter registration in Coles County and in 2004 she registered more voters than any volunteer ever had. She most recently became an avid cat lover.
As a resident of the Mattoon Towers, she enjoyed bingo, crafts and spending time with her friends. Carolyn was a member of the 1st Apostolic Church in Mattoon and had a strong faith in the Lord. She was a sweet lady and will be missed by all.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Coles County Animal Shelter.
