CHARLES H. BICKEL, JR., 82, of Mattoon, IL and formerly of Arcola, IL passed away at 12:05 A.M. Sunday, April 20, 2008 at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center in Mattoon, IL.
Jr. was born on February 26, 1926 in Arcola, IL. He was a son of Charles Henry, Sr. and Beulah Catherine (Wilkins) Bickel. He married Doris June Bright in 1948. She passed away in 1959. He later married Charlotte Stortzum Claxon in 1960 in Mattoon, IL. She passed away March 18, 1997.
Survivors include one son, Jeff Bickel of Arthur, IL; five daughters, Tina Bickel Girouard of Port St. Lucie, FL, Vicki McGuffey of Mattoon IL, Peggy Edwards of Sidney, IL, Johnna Howard of Sullivan, IL and Billijean Powell of Mattoon, IL; 15 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; one sister, Phyllis Gallagher of Tuscola, IL and special friend, Ellen Buege of Mattoon, IL.
His parents, his wives and one brother, Bill Bickel, preceded him in death.
Jr. graduated from Arcola High School with the class of 1944. He was a WWII Army Veteran and a member of VFW Post 7862 in Arcola, IL. Jr. retired as a Mill Wright Supervisor for Associated Services in Eustis, FL. He was also a member of the First Christian Church of Arcola.
Jr. enjoyed playing cards and putting puzzles together. He also liked to fish and camp and he loved his family very much.
