Chester Embry, 88, of Toledo, IL passed away at 9:08 A.M. Sunday, April 26, 2009 at Mattoon Health Care Center in Mattoon, IL.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Tuesday, April 28, 2009 at the Arcola, Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by the Arcola VFW post 7862. The Edwards Funeral Home at 221 East Main Street in Arcola, IL, is assisting Chester’s family with arrangements.
Chester was born September 3, 1920 in Brackenridge County, KY. He was a son of Arthur and Ella (Peach) Embry. He married Virginia Lois Bruner on April 16, 1946 in Paynesville, KY. She passed away on August 7, 2008.
Survivors include seven children, Lamar Embry and his wife Debbie of Toledo, IL, Barbara Burns and her husband Jack of Toledo, IL, Ralph Embry and his wife Paula of Ashmore, IL, Allen Embry and his wife Edna of Arcola, IL, Michael Embry of Charleston, IL, Phyllis Madden and her husband Rodney of Newport, ME and Tammie Embry of Mattoon, IL; one sister Correne Burch of Atwood, IL; 23 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren and 2 more on the way.
His parents two brothers, Charles Herbert Embry and John Columbus Embry and one sister, Mary Lou Smith preceded him in death.
Chester was an Army Veteran of WWII having received the Purple Heart.
He farmed in the Arcola area for 50 years. He lived in Neoga area for several years where he sold produce. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and playing cards.
Chester is a former member of the Neoga American Legion.
