CAROL L. WOOD, “WOODY’, 78 of rural Tuscola, IL passed away at 10:50 A.M. on Wednesday, September 26, 2012 at his residence.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Monday, October 1, 2012 at the Tuscola United Methodist Church. Rev. Patty Johansen will officiate. Burial will be in the Lewis Cemetery in rural Tuscola, IL. Visitation will be held from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Sunday, September 30, 2012 at the Tuscola United Methodist Church. The Edwards Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements. Memorials may be made to Sam’s Food Pantry, Tuscola Schools “Help a Child” Program, and Tuscola Biddy Basketball.
Carol was born on July 16, 1934 in Taylorville, IL. He was a son of Marcellus Othur and Floy Muriel (Poor) Wood. He married Patsy Jane “Pat” Allen on November 20, 1955 in Broughton, IL. She passed away on August 7, 2010.
He is survived by three children, Bruce Wood of Tuscola, IL, Brian Wood and his wife Connie of Van Wert, OH and Beth Pugh and her husband Mark of Tuscola, IL; four grandchildren, Darcy Crummey and her husband Patrick of Van Wert, OH, Darren Wood of Van Wert, OH, Kyle Pugh and Dylan Pugh both of Tuscola, IL; three great-grandchildren, Meredith, Zachary and Lucas Crummey; one sister, Mary Casey of Hidden Valley Lake, CA and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Pat, two brothers, Bernard and Donald Wood and one sister Eleanor Dewitt.
Carol graduated from Witt High School in Witt, IL. He retired as an iron worker from USI with 30 years of service. He was also an auctioneer who owned and operated Woody’s Auction Service. He was a member of the Moose in Tuscola, the Boot Kickers Dance Club and he attended the Tuscola United Methodist Church.
Carol enjoyed horseback riding and shared his love of horses with his family and friends. He had been a member of the Sunnybrook Saddle Club in Tuscola, IL. He was always willing to saddle up the horse or pony for anyone who wanted to take a ride. In the early seventies Carol and Pat established girls Biddy Basketball in Tuscola and it is still going strong to this day.
Carol loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He always supported them at their many sporting events and activities.
Carol and Pat enjoyed country line dancing and are now, as they wanted, dancing together in heaven.
