Dean Garland

DEAN GARLAND, 69, of Tuscola, IL formerly of Pana, IL passed away at 11:20 AM on Tuesday, March 5, 2013 at his residence in Tuscola, IL.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Friday, March 8, 2013 at the Edwards Funeral Home, 221 East Main in Arcola, IL. Steve Ewing will officiate. Burial will be in the Bourbon Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Thursday, March 7, 2013 at the funeral home.

Dean was born on February 26, 1944 in Hillsboro, IL. He was a son of Floyd and Verna M. (Seaton) Garland. He married Joyce (Smith) on August 10, 1997 in Tuscola, IL.

He is survived by his wife Joyce of Tuscola, IL; five daughters, Judy Marty and her husband Todd of Grand Island, Nebraska, Bev Mathis and her husband Dave of Clinton, IL, Sue Shepeard and her husband Dean of Rushville, IL, Tammy Beach and her husband Danny of Taylorville, IL and Debbie Garland of Pana, IL; four step-daughters, Angie VanVoorhis and her husband Kevin of Leroy, IL, Debbie Duffel and her husband Kevin of Hindsboro, IL, Kristi Massie of Oakland and Penney VanDellen and her husband Rick of Grand Junction, CO; one step-son, Toby Massie and his wife Cynthia of Hindsboro, IL and one brother, Joe Garland of TX.

He is preceded in death by his parents; one son, Rick Garland; two brothers, and his first wife, Helen.

Dean retired from G.S.I. (Grain Systems Inc.) of Assumption. He enjoyed dirt track racing and being with his dirt track racing buddies. He operated the gas and parts trailer at the Macon County Speedway for several years. Dean sold many racecar parts at trade shows for racing.
