Dennis Alan White, 72 of Mattoon, IL passed away at 2:32 P.M. on Sunday, March 2, 2025 at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center in Mattoon, IL.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Monday, March 10, 2025 at the Edwards Funeral Home, 221 East Main Street in Arcola, IL. Graveside funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, March 11, 2025 in the Upper Muddy Point Cemetery in rural Lerna, Illinois.
Dennis was born on February 7, 1953 in Mattoon, IL, a son of Cecil Edward and Sarah Alice (Funkhouser) White.
Dennis is survived by five children, Otis White and his special friend Jenna Hays of Charleston, IL, Dorothy Ann Taylor and her husband Dana of Casey, IL, Kimberly Smiley of Mattoon, IL, Dennis Joseph White of Mattoon, IL and Shawn Alan White of Kentucky, eight grandchildren, Grady Thomas White of Mattoon, IL, Christian and Kinsley Hays of Charleston, IL, Tyler and Jordan Chapman of Hazel Dell, IL, Myles Hensley and his wife Sydney, Hailey Meadows and her husband Adrian all of Mattoon, IL and Annabella White of Christopher, IL, six great grandchildren, June, Apollo and Leo Hensley, Kayson and Karsyn Yowell, and Hazelyn Meadows, four siblings, Ronald Dean White and his wife Deb, Julia Ann White, Cathy Lee Gonzalez, and Zelda Fay Underwood all of Mattoon, IL, and his pet terrier, Harry, Dennis referred to him as “Harry Terry”.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Steven White and one sister, Linda Medina.
Dennis was a participating member of Liberty ABATE of Illinois Chapter 14. He was also a member of the Eagles Club of Mattoon and the Mattoon American Legion.
Dennis had several jobs throughout the years, from working in a broom shop to driving for Checker Top Cab, back in the day when there was a major snowstorm, he used a snowmobile to transport Doctors to see patients and to deliver medications. He also worked at Fedders in Effingham for several years, he bartended at Pat’s Lounge in Mattoon and helped maintained Pat’s Lounge. He worked in the gaming industry, maintaining gaming machines in local establishments. One of Dennis’ favorite jobs was owning and operating Dad and Son’s Pawn shop in Mattoon.
Dennis enjoyed riding Harley Davidsons; he had several. He liked to shoot pool and go camping, he had a spot at Sherwood Forrest Camp Ground. He enjoyed mushroom hunting, fishing, grilling out and he was a great cook.
Dennis was very community-oriented and did a lot for a lot of people. He was always willing to help anyone in need. He was a family man, and he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren.
