DON W. WINGLER, 73, of Arcola, IL passed away at 2:45 a.m. Wednesday, January 16, 2008 Eastview Terrace in Sullivan, IL.
Don was born on April 11, 1934 in Arcola, IL. He was a son of John and Leah (Sutton) Wingler. He married Joan Idleman Jividen on May 12, 1983 in Arcola, IL.
Survivors include his wife, Joan Wingler of Arcola, IL; one son, Kim Wingler and his wife Mindy of Hilliard, OH; two step-children, Randy Jividen and his wife Barbara of Haughton, LA and Douglas Jividen and his wife Cathy of Bement, IL; two granddaughters, Staci Wingler and Aly Wingler both of Hilliard, OH; three step-grandchildren, Angie Thompson and her husband Nick of Kansas City, MO, Chris Jividen of Haughton, LA and Cody Jividen of Bement, IL; four brothers, Gene Wingler and his wife Eileen of Oakland, IL, Alvin Wingler and his wife Dona of Arcola, IL, Jerry Wingler and his wife Julie of Nashville, TN and Lew Wingler and his wife Diane of Geneva, IN.
His parents preceded him in death
Don was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. Don was a member of Walnut Grove Christian Church. He was a past member of the Arcola Lions Club and the Arcola Volunteer Fire Department. Don had served as an alderman on the Arcola City Council for many years and was also the Mayor of Arcola from April 1985 to April 1989. Don owned Wingler Builders and was a building contractor for over forty years.
Don raised quarter horses at one time. He also enjoyed doing woodworking and was particularly fond of working with oak. Don had made a six foot oak cabinet and a beautiful corner cabinet for Joan; building the corner cabinet by just looking at a picture she had given him. Don especially loved to spend time with his family and friends.
