Doris Hewkin

DORIS P. HEWKIN, 99, of Mattoon, IL passed away at 11:41 A.M. on Tuesday, August 21, 2012 at the Odd Fellow-Rebekah Home in Mattoon, IL.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Sunday, August 26, 2012 at the Edwards Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Edgewood Cemetery in Edgewood, IL. Visitation will be prior to the funeral at the funeral home.

Doris was born on November 20, 1912 in Clay County, IL. She was a daughter of Steven W. and Laura Mae Reece. She married Merrill Omer Edwards, later she married Dewey Hewkin on November 26, 1944, and he passed away on August 1, 1966.

She is survived by several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Dewey Hewkin, one son, Lyle Edwards, two brothers, Willis and Lyle Reece, and eight sisters, Estelle Reece, Lela Landreth, Maude Dewitt, Veva Sapp, Lucy McArtor, Edna McArtor, Inez Murphy and Eileen Fisher.

Doris was a member of the First Christian Church of Mattoon.

She had worked as a beautician for several years.
