DORIS WALKER, 88, of Tuscola, IL, widow of Illinois State Police Captain, Elmer Walker, passed away at 6:23 A.M. on Saturday, February 7, 2015 at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center in Mattoon, IL.
A visitation was held from 2:00 P.M. until 3:00 P.M. on Monday, February 9, 2015 at the Edwards Funeral Home. A funeral service was held after the visitation and burial was in Arcola Cemetery. Rev. Ivan Jess officiated.
Doris was born on August 15, 1926 in Cornland, IL. She was a daughter of Harold and Marion (Goodman) Chapman. She married Elmer H, Walker on June 1, 1946 in Cornland, IL. He passed away on November 9, 2006.
Doris is survived by two sons, Bruce Walker and his wife Debra of Tuscola, IL and Robert Walker and his wife Christine of Alexandria, VA; three grandchildren, Marci Swearingen of Tuscola, IL, Gerrod Walker and his wife Jessica of Rockford, IL and Amy Walker of Rockford, IL; six great-grandchildren, Sheldon Brained, Lindsey Pagel, Jackson Walker, Morgan Guzzardo, Aiden Walker and Ryan Walker and two great-great-grandchildren, Sofia and MacKayla.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Illinois State Police Captain, Elmer Walker, three brothers, Harold, Denzel and Raymond Chapman and one sister, Marion Williams.
Doris had worked at the Munitions Plant during WWII, later at Dunkin Donuts in Rockford, IL and she had been an election judge in Boone County, IL.
She loved birds, photography and playing lotto.
Memorials were made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
