Emi was born on February 13, 1997 in Landstuhl AB, Germany. She is the daughter of Jeff and Ellen (Guthridge) Mathias and an amazing big sister to her brother Joshua.
In addition to her loving parents and amazing brother, Emi is survived by her “Poppa and Mamaw” Richard and Nancy Mathias of Arcola, IL, her “Poppa and Grandma” Charles and Karen Guthridge of Hindsboro, IL, her Aunt Katie and Uncle Dillon McConnell and her cousins Kimmie and Allyson, Uncle Bill Mathias and his fiancé Shelly Costa and her cousins Mikey and Kaylee, her number one Aunt Nikki Gomez and her amazing friend Thomas Taiko and her cousins CJ and Stephanie Gomez and their children Carter, Clay and Carson.
She also leaves behind so many people that have been so incredible in her life. We cannot thank everyone for being so amazing to Emi. You all hold a special place in our heart.
She was preceded in death by her Uncle Michael Guthridge.
Emi enjoyed life to the fullest. She loved Taylor Swift, Kenny Chesney and Luke Bryan. She also had a passion for children. She thoroughly enjoyed “working” for Miss Cindy.
Emi loved her brother Joshua. The connection between them was unbelievable. They helped each other through life. They truly were connected. They would help us understand what the other was saying when we struggled to understand Emi/Josh talk. They comforted each other and truly understood what the other had going on.
Emi loved Camp New Hope, her home away from home on Lake Shelbyville and everyone that she knew there, her tattoos, her wild hair styles, Las Vegas, her dogs Toews and Lexi, but most importantly her family. Emi exemplified unconditional love. She brought a smile to everyone that was blessed to know her. From her love of music and dancing to getting excited when getting cashews, she could tickle your heart just from her happiness.
Emi was a member of the Walnut Grove Christian Church. She graduated from Arcola High School in 2015. She was active in 4-H, cheerleading, NHS, FFA and Make-A-Wish foundation.
In Lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Camp New Hope in Emi’s honor.
