Felipe Ruiz

Felipe Ruiz, 91, of Arcola, IL passed away at 3:13 PM on Saturday, April 19, 2025 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, IL.

Visitation will be from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Monday, April 21, 2025 at the Edwards Funeral Home, Arcola, IL. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, April 22, 2025 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Father Michael Trummer will officiate. Burial will be in the Magdalena Municipal Cemetery in Magdalena, Jalisco, Mexico.

Felipe was born on September 8, 1933 in Teúl de González Ortega, Zacatecas, Mexico. He was a son of Francisco Ruiz and Maria Felipa Romero. He married Antonia Castaneda Rivera on June 13, 1957 in El Salvador, Jalisco, Mexico. She passed away on February 3, 2025.

He is survived by 10 children, Herminie Ruiz and her husband Francisco Guevara of Mexico, Avelina Ruiz and her husband Lauro Ponce of Mexico, Francisco Ruiz and his wife Damaris Ortiz of Arcola, IL, Alfonso Ruiz and his wife Maria Guadiana Ruiz of Arcola, IL, Miguel Ruiz and his wife Estela Medina of Arcola, IL, Zenaida Ruiz and her husband Ipolito Patino of Arcola, IL, Antonio Ruiz and his wife Maria Covarubias of Arcola, IL, Catalina Ruiz and her husband Melesio Caro of Mexico, Felipa Ruiz and her husband Martin Corona of Arcola, IL and Maria Ruiz and her husband Rigoberto Leal of Arcola, IL, 46 grandchildren, 45 great grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild, 4 great-great-great grandchildren, and 1 sister, Maria Ruiz Romero of Mexico and one brother, Lorenzo Ruiz Romero of Mexico.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and two babies, Julia and a stillborn child. He was also preceded in death by several siblings.

Felipe was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.

Felipe retired from E-Z Trail Inc. in Arthur, IL, prior to that he worked at Libman Co. in Arcola, IL.

He enjoyed gardening and planting many vegetables to share with family and friends. He always kept his garage clean and organized.
