FRANCIS MARION RICH, 81, of Arcola, IL passed away at 6:45 P.M. Monday, September 1, 2008 at his residence.
Francis was born June 8, 1927 in Arcola, IL. He was a son of Carlus Leonard and Gretchen Marie (Clevenger) Rich. He married Jodi Shields on March 5, 1955 in Arcola, IL.
Survivors include one son, Charles L. “Chuck” Rich and his wife, Carla of Mattoon, IL; two daughters, Linda Marie Leach and her husband, Dan of Monticello, IL and Lianne Kay Graham and her husband, Tom of Winter Garden, FL, one sister, Joy Weller and her husband, Norman of Houston, TX; one brother, Dave Rich and his wife Doris of Urbana, IL; nine grandchildren, Travis, Darin and Justin Rich, Matt, Ryan, C.J. and Chase Rich; Amanda Leach and Cortney Graham; two great-grandchildren, Courtney Rich and Levi Rich.
His parents, infant twins, Danny and Donna Rich, son, Gary Rich and one brother, Bill Rich preceded him in death.
Francis was a decorated Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Arcola, Arcola VFW 7862, Odd-Fellows of Arthur, IL, the Eagles at Mattoon, IL and the American Legion of Mattoon, IL.
Francis farmed in the Arcola area for over 50 years. In the 1960s he enjoyed participating in go cart racing and tractor pulling, building his own turbo chargers for his tractors. He has always been a big fan of motor sports of all kinds. Francis also enjoyed camping and bluegrass music.
