HAROLD “SHORTY” RHOADES, 86, of Hugo, IL passed away at 7:52 A.M. on Tuesday, August 21, 2012 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, IL.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 Noon on Saturday, August 25, 2012 at the Edwards Funeral Home, 221 East Main in Arcola, IL. Rev. Duane Piercy will officiate. Burial will be in the Hugo Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. to Noon on Saturday, August 25, 2012 at the funeral home.

Harold was born on September 13, 1925 in Hugo, IL. He was a son of Ross and Julia (Biesecker) Rhoades. He married Clara Mae Norris on September 12, 1947 in Tuscola, IL.

Survivors include his wife, Clara Mae Rhoades, of Hugo, IL; four children, Wanda Crouse and her husband Dick of Villa Grove, IL, Pat Menges and her husband Mike of Bismarck, IL, Bob Rhoades and his wife Martha of Hugo, IL and Dorothy Rhoades of Champaign, IL; seven grandchildren, Joe Bird and his wife Kristy of Villa Grove, IL, Julia Smith and her husband Josh of Sioux City, IA, Curtis McCool and his wife Elizabeth of Potomac, IL, Kellie Almy and her husband James of Irvine, CA, Clint McCool and his wife Mary of Rossville, IL, Jena Arthur and her husband Justin of Camargo, IL and Ross Rhoades and Emma of Charleston, IL; fourteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild and one sister, Betty Rann of Tuscola, IL.

Harold was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, Shirley Ann Rhoades, Hazel Murphy, Virginia Cannoy and Helen Bishop and one brother, Harlan Rhoades.

Harold was a member of the Hugo Community Church, the National Rifle Association, Pheasants Forever and he had been a member of the Camargo Volunteer Fire Department.

Harold farmed in the Hugo area his entire life. He enjoyed woodworking, bee keeping, hunting, fishing, trapping and collecting Indian artifacts that he had found in and around Douglas County.

Memorials may be made to Carle Hospice.
