JAMES “TIP” EVANS, 89, of Humboldt, IL passed at 6:02 P.M. on Tuesday, January 1, 2013 at the Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center in Mattoon, IL.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, January 5, 2013 at the Maranatha Baptist Church, 3400 Dewitt Avenue, Mattoon, IL. Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral at the church. Burial will be at 3:00 P.M. in the Glendale Cemetery in Fillmore, IL. The Edwards Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.

Tip was born on August 1, 1923 in Fayette County, IL. He was the son of Morgan and Lydia Louise "Lula" (Understahl) Evans. He married Peggy Ann Alexander on August 25, 1946 in Hillsboro, IL.

He is survived by 1 daughter, Gail Ann Warner and her husband David of St. Paul, MN; 3 grandsons, Brian David Warner and his wife Shannon of Woodbury, MN, Christopher Carl Warner and his wife Anne of Sebastian, FL and James Christian Warner and his wife Theresa of Woodbury, MN; 5 great-grandchildren, Gavin, Kyle and Rebekah Warner of Woodbury, MN, and Ty and Maija Warner of Sebastian, FL; 1 sister-in-law, Gladys Evans of Springfield, MO.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, 5 brothers, Paul Evans, Kenneth “Gabby” Evans, John “Art” Evans, Morgan “Jiggs” Evans and Robert “Bob” Evans; and 2 sisters, Ruth Kirkman and Annie Mutka.

Tip was a Navy Veteran of WWII.

He was a member of the Maranatha Baptist Church in Mattoon, IL.

He worked for the Nickel Plate Railroad and retired after 20 years. He then went to work for Illinois Consolidated and retired after 20 years.

Tip enjoyed golfing, gardening and spending time with his family and friends.

Memorials may be made to the Maranatha Baptist Church.
