Janet Harrer McGrath, 82 of Chattahoochee Hills, GA passed away on Saturday, January 25, 2025 peacefully in her sleep.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Thursday, January 30, 2025 in the Hugo Cemetery in Hugo, IL. Pastor Bob Silvanik will officiate. The Edwards Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.
Janet was born on December 20, 1942 in Decatur, IL, the daughter of John Mathias and Hester Jeanette (Cumberledge) Harrer. She married William Edwin (Edd) McGrath on February 24, 1963 in Arthur, IL. He passed away on December 19, 2016.
Affectionately known by her family as Mom Mom, she is survived by one son, William Paul McGrath II of Lutz, FL; one daughter, Melinda Isabel Cook and her husband, Hanslizae of Chattahoochee Hills, GA; six grandchildren, Alexis, Kendall and Belle Cook and Liam, Riley and Nixie McGrath; two brothers, John Harrer of Port St. Lucie, FL and Richard Harrer and his wife Becky of Arthur, IL.
Janet was a 1961 graduate of Arthur High School. She attended Eastern Illinois University for two years before transferring to Florida where she earned her bachelor’s in English. Janet taught High School English.
She was the founder and a board member of Missionary Ventures International and a proud member the Christian Motorcycle Association. She enjoyed riding motorcycles with the love of her life, Edd McGrath, taking care of her family, reading mysteries, going to the movies with her kids and eating hot buttered popcorn with a crisp fountain drink, hosting parties for others, traveling to all parts of the world, and she loved the Lord.
