Joas Herschberger

JOAS A. HERSCHBERGER, 92, of Arthur, IL passed away at 11:00 P.M. Friday, October 22, 2010 at his residence.

Funeral services were held at 9:00 A.M. on Monday, October 25, 2010 at the Joas A. Herschberger home place, 1553 State Highway 133 in rural Arthur, IL. Bishop Howard Miller officiated. Burial was in the Otto Cemetery in rural Arthur, IL. Visitation was anytime prior to the funeral at the home place. The Edwards Funeral Home assisted with arrangements.

Joas was born on March 29, 1918 in rural Arthur, IL. He was a son of Abraham C. and Dena D. (Helmuth) Herschberger. He married Barbara M. Schrock on November 25, 1943 in rural Arthur, IL. She passed away on May 2, 2007.

He is survived by four sons, Menno B. Herschberger and his wife Barbara, Wilmer J. Herschberger and his wife Louise, Alvin J. Herschberger and his wife Sovilla and Elmer J. Herschberger all of Arthur, IL; four daughters, Dena Schrock and her husband Daniel Jr. of Cuba, IL, Irene J. Herschberger, Ella Yoder and Lovina J. Jess and her husband Chris all of Arthur, IL; forty grandchildren and 73 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one daughter, Verna Herschberger, a son-in-law, Wilmer Yoder, three grandchildren, Willard, Miriam, and Mervin Schrock, two great-grandchildren, Miriam and Hollis, nine siblings, Sarah Lehman, Mattie Chupp, Amos Herschberger, Dora Chupp, Matilda Herschberger, Menno Herschberger, twins; Christian and Daniel Herschberger and Clara Kauffman

Joas was a member of the Old Order Amish Faith.

He farmed his entire life.
