John Lee

JOHN E. LEE, 77, of Arcola, IL passed away at 5:14 A.M. on Sunday, December 4, 2011 at Eastview Terrace in Sullivan, IL surrounded by his daughters.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, December 7, 2011 at 10:00 A.M. at the Sunnyside Mennonite Church in rural Arcola, IL. Rev. Brian Petersheim will officiate. Burial will be in the Sunnyside Mennonite Church Cemetery in rural Arcola, IL. Visitation will be from 2:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. and from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Tuesday, December 6, 2011 at the Sunnyside Mennonite Church in rural Arcola, IL. The Edwards Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.

John was born on December 14, 1933 in Dover DE. He was a son of Elmer and Saloma (Wengard) Lee. He married Sovilla Beachy on April 24, 1957 in Arthur, IL. She passed away on January 2, 2005.

He is survived by two daughters, Rachel Otto and her husband David of Arcola, IL and Esther Rocke and her husband Paul of Arcola, IL; five grandchildren, Justin Otto of Arcola, IL, Victoria Dyer and her husband Seth of Mattoon, IL and Kristen, Chelsea, and Blake Rocke all of Arcola, IL; two brothers, Ernest Lee and his wife Sovilla of Madison, VA and Daniel Lee and his wife Betty of Dover, DE; five sisters, Lydia Wakeland and her husband Don of Ft. Wayne, IN, Ivy Beachy and her husband Albert of Arcola, IL, Olive Miller of Dover, DE, Fannie Mae Morris and her husband Leonard of Dover DE, and Barbara Lewis of Cumberland, MD.

He was preceded in death by, his parents, four brothers, Noah, David, Joseph and Norman Lee, and three sisters, Rachael Lee, Matilda Hutchins and Mary Hickman.

John was a member of the North Vine Mennonite Church.

He operated Lee’s Standard Service Station in Arthur, IL for several years. He had worked in construction and most recently had been a taxi driver for the Amish.

John enjoyed visiting with people, singing hymns and spending time with his family and friends especially his grandchildren.
