John Otto

JOHN E. OTTO, 85, of Arthur, IL passed away at 4:15 A.M. on Tuesday, October 2, 2012 at Decatur Memorial Hospital.

Funeral Services will be held at 9:00 A.M. on Friday, October 5, 2012 at the Melvin Otto residence ½ mile West of Arthur, IL on US Highway 133. Bishop David E. Schrock will officiate. Burial will be in the Otto Cemetery in Arthur, IL. Visitation will be any time prior to the funeral. The Edwards Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.

John was born on August 2, 1927 in Coles County, IL. He was a son of Eli M. and Fannie (Gingerich) Otto. He married Barbara S. Beachy on November 24, 1949 in Moultrie Co.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Otto, four daughters and four sons, Pauline Kauffman and her husband Ben of Lovington, IL, Dorothy Herschberger and her husband Ray of Arthur, IL, Milton Otto and his wife Edna Fern of Arthur, IL, Alma Jane Schlabach and her husband Willard of Sullivan, IL, Naomi Yoder and her husband Paul of Sullivan, IL Kenneth Otto and his wife Marilyn of McBain, MI, Roger Otto and his wife Louise of Atwood, IL and Marlin Otto and his wife Rebecca of Moore, MT’; 54 grandchildren and 73 great-grandchildren, 3 stepsisters and one step brother.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 grandchild, Treva Ann Otto, 1 great grandchild Lamar Ray Herschberger, 3 brothers, Jacob, Chris, and Milton Otto, 3 sisters, Lydia Miller, Amanda Yoder and Mattie Helmuth and his step-mother, Fannie Otto.

John was a retired farmer and a member of the Old Order Amish Church.
