Judith Tejada, 106, of Mattoon, formerly of Quito, Ecuador, died at noon Thursday, May 7, 2009 at her residence.
She was born July 12, 1902, in Ambato, Ecuador, the daughter of Antonio Jose and Amelia Solis Lopez. She married Enrique Tejada in 1922 in Quito, Ecuador. He passed away in 1978.
Survivors include one daughter, Martha Beltran of Mattoon; two grandchildren, Santiago Beltran and wife Tracy of Shakopee, MN, and Maria Beltran of Mattoon; and one great-grandaughter, Bianca Beltran of Mattoon.
Mrs. Tejada was a school teacher in Ecuador prior to her marriage and later worked as a dress maker. She came to the United States in 1979 and lived in Hillside, New Jersey for several years. She moved to Mattoon in 2003. She has been active in her ministry as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses since 1987.
A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. today, May 9, 2009 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Mattoon with John Verducci officiating.
