June Cherry

June Faye Brandon Cherry of Arcola departed this life at 1:45 a.m. on Thursday, April 9, 2009 while at home with her family. A private graveside service will be held on Saturday, April 11 at the Arcola Cemetery with Reverend Don Winch officiating. Edwards Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

June was born on February 25, 1935 in Gamaliel Kentucky. She was the daughter of Herman and Lily Mae (Davis) Brandon. She graduated from Arcola High School in 1953 and then married Joe R. Cherry on June 16, 1954 in Tennessee. He preceded her in death on June 10, 1990. Her parents and four sisters, Darlene, Jane, Jessie and Jan also passed before her.

June was a devoted mother of sons Bill and wife Terri, Tim and wife Lu of Arcola and Steve and wife Diane of Galton along with daughters Pam and husband Doug Whipple and Patricia (Cissy) Cherry of Arcola. She also was a proud grandmother to eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She was also a loving sister to, Jo and husband Andy Shields of Arcola, IL, Joye and husband Ward Barcus of Champaign, IL and Toni and husband Roger White of Fort Pierce, FL. Family was the highlight of her life, and she brought an incredible amount of love to everyone around her. June was always ready with a kind word, a funny story or a fantastic meal just to make you feel better. Her passing will leave a void in the family, but the memory of her laughter, love, wisdom and humor will always be in their hearts.

While most of her life was spent as a mother and homemaker, June worked various part time jobs in her younger years and then handled the bookkeeping for her husband's auto repair shop for many years. Her hobbies were as diverse and interesting as she was, and included everything from art, music, gardening, reading, poetry, sewing, crocheting and her pets. Her cat Sassy was a constant companion who always brought a smile to her face. June was a talented painter and won several years in a row at the county fair, taking the top three prizes. She also enjoyed listening to music, especially her new Kid Rock cd. She was always ready to learn something new, take on a challenge and make everything better for everyone. She no doubt will find all the happiness she deserves in Heaven and have a fresh canvas to start a new painting.
