Larry Shafer

LARRY SHAFER, 69, of Arcola, IL passed away at 5:44 P.M. on Thursday, April 23, 2009 at his residence in rural Arcola, IL.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, April 28, 2009 at the Edwards Funeral Home 221 East Main Street, Arcola, IL. Rev. Bruce Baker will officiate. Burial will be in the Arcola Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 – 8:00 P.M. Monday, April 27, 2009 at the funeral home.

Larry was born on August 19, 1939 in Hindsboro, IL. He was a son of George F. and Elizabeth “Betty” (Wilbur) Shafer. He married Faribell Idleman on October 24, 1959 in Hindsboro, IL.

Survivors include his wife Faribell Shafer of Arcola ,IL, two sons, Steve Shafer of Arcola, IL, and Mark Shafer and his wife Jennifer of Arcola, IL; four grandchildren; Lauren, Shelby, Sydnee, and Austin Shafer all of Arcola, IL; one sister, Patricia Sitz and her husband Robert of Arcola, IL.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one son Scott Shafer.

Larry served in the Army National Gaurd.

Larry was a member of the Arcola United Methodist Church and the Arcola Lions Club. He served on the Arcola Coop Elevator Board for several years and was a Trustee for the Arcola Township Cemetery.

Larry farmed his entire life. He enjoyed antique tractors, toy tractors and Cushman scooters, but the greatest joy in his life was spending time with his family especially his grandchildren.
