Larry Weller

Larry Mason Weller, 80, Daytona Beach, FL, passed away on October 13, 2021.

Larry was born on February 1, 1941 in Connersville, IN, a son of Howard Mason and Betty Jean (Ramsey) Weller. His family, shortly after Larry was born, moved to a farm near Hindsboro, IL in 1945.

He attended Arcola Schools where he was involved in sports and went to the Basketball State Championships under coach Lou Baker. This team was the first-ever Sweet 16 Team for Arcola High School. In 1959 he played football for Arcola on the undefeated Okaw Valley Championship Team as the team’s center. Later, he proudly served in the U.S. Air Force stationed at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida. Larry put together a bowling team while serving on the emerald coast of Florida, and the team won the Southeast Bowling Conference Tournament in the mid-1960s.

After serving in the U.S. Air Force, he graduated with a finance degree from the University of Illinois and worked in sales and as a stockbroker throughout the 1970s and 1980s. He then moved to Florida where he lived and enjoyed the sunshine from the 1990’s until his death.

Larry is survived by his daughter, Wendy Weller (Anthony Raitano), his son, Thomas Weller (Kate Brunner), four grandchildren, Isabella and Adeleine Bucks, and Jordan and Benjamin Weller, and one brother Richard Weller (Linda) of Dickson TN. He also leaves behind a nephew, Devon Weller (Janet), many cousins, and extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard Mason Weller and Betty Jean Ramsey Weller.

A short memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 3, 2024 at 10:00 AM in the Arcola Township Cemetery. The Edwards Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.
