LAWRENCE W. “PUNK” MOORE, 82, of Cooks Mills, IL passed away at 7:40 A.M. on Saturday, April 16, 2011 at Mattoon Health Care Center.
Funeral services were at 10:30 A.M. on Tuesday, April 19, 2011 at the Edwards Funeral Home, 221 East Main in Arcola, IL. Rev. Stephanie Johanpeter will officiate. Burial with military rites was in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Cooks Mills. Visitation was from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Monday, April 18, 2011 at the funeral home.
Punk was born on February 6, 1929 in Douglas County, Arcola Township, IL. He was a son of John E. and Elsie Mae (Lawrence) Moore. He married Mildred L. Floyd on December 2, 1966 in Mattoon, IL.
He is survived by his wife Mildred Moore of Cooks Mills; two sisters, Patricia Brown of Decatur, IL and Frances Hutton of Mattoon, IL; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, John F. Moore.
Punk was an Army Veteran. He had served on the Cooks Mills Volunteer Fire Department for over 35 years. He retired from Columbia Machine in Mattoon, IL with 23 years of service and had been a Road Commissioner for North Okaw Township for 20 years.
He was a member of the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. He enjoyed dancing, raising cattle and he had a passion to maintain roads using heavy equipment.
