Lela Jones

Lela Jones, 62 passed away at 4:05 PM on Monday, February 3, 2025 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, IL

A Memorial service will be held from 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM on Saturday, February 15, 2025 at the Chatham Avalon Church of Christ, 8601 S. State St., Chicago, IL 60619.

Lela was born on September 18, 1962, to the parents of Nervine May (Jones) and J. B. Howell in Chicago, Illinois.

She was blessed to be gifted with a bright smile, warm spirit, and charming personality. Lela’s personality made everyone she was surrounded by feel welcome.

Lela loved the Lord, and she carried it in her spirit. She loved music and enjoyed singing. Her favorite songs were: “Jesus Loves Me” and “You are my Sunshine”. After singing she would say “Good singing Lela”. She enjoyed eating variety of food while drinking her favorite beverage “diet coke”.

On February 3rd, 2025, our beloved Lela was called home by the Angels in Heaven, where she is united with her father: J. B. Howell and her 2 brothers: Harrel and Derrick Jones.

Lela leaves to cherish: a loving mother Nervine May; 4 sisters: Jewel Ragland, Venessa Howell, Cynthia (Michael) Cameron, and Muriel Adams; 2 Brothers: Alec (Rejeana) Jones and Corey (Twana) Adams: Sister-in-law: Glender Wilkerson-Jones. A wonderful and loving caretaker: Angela Chamber. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many other loved ones.

Our beloved Lela will be greatly missed, and her memory will live forever in our hearts.
