LOUIS LAVERLE HALL Sr., 85 of Arthur, IL passed away at 4:55 P.M. on Saturday, February 20, 2010 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, IL.

Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, February 25, 2010 at St. John The Baptist Catholic Church in Arcola, IL. Father Al Kemme officiated. Burial with military rites conducted by the Arthur American Legion Post 0479 was held in the Arthur Cemetery. A rosary service was held at 4:15 P.M. on Wednesday, February 24, 2010 at the Edwards Funeral Home. Visitation was from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Wednesday, February 24, at the Edwards Funeral Home, 221 East Main in Arcola IL.

Louis was born on January 20, 1925 in Coles County, IL South of Charleston, IL. He was a son of Charles Palmer and Minnie Francis (Prince) Hall. He married Thelma Marie Medeiros on October 20, 1945 in Honolulu, Hawaii.

He is survived by his wife Thelma of Arthur, IL; three sons, Louis Laverle Hall Jr. “Butch” and his wife Janette of Hudsonville, MI, Charles William Hall “Chuck” and his wife Denise of Dardenne Prairie, MO and Steven Michael Hall and his wife Debbie of Arcola, IL; one daughter, Malia Ann Starwalt and her husband Doug of Mattoon, IL; six grandchildren, Taryn, Taige, Katrina, Kristi, Haley and Leslie; three step grandchildren, Deena, Lindsey and Leah; six great-grandchildren; four step-great grandchildren and two brothers, Charles Hall and his wife Lavoie of Quincy, IL and James F. Hall and his wife Carolyn of Charleston,IL.

His parents preceded him in death.

Louis served as a Second Mate in the Merchant Marines and Army Transport Services during WWII.

He retired from Consolidated Communications as a combination man in 1986 with over thirty-five years of service.

He managed Little League, Pony League and Legion Baseball for many years.

He has enjoyed fishing and hunting through the years and is a retired member of the Arthur Sportsman Club.

Louis served as a Volunteer Fireman for 10 years in Martinsville, IL and 15 years in Arthur, IL.

He was an avid gardener and a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Arcola, IL and the Arthur American Legion Post 0479.

Memorials were made to the Arthur Volunteer Fire Department.
