He was 15 years of age when he repented of his sins and was baptized into the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite by Minister Frank Wenger at Livingston, California in 1945. He loved the Lord and the church, always enjoying Sunday School discussions. He whole-heartedly supported the church and its doctrines. He remained faithful to the vows.
He was married to Dorthy Koehn on October 5, 1952 by Minister Jesse Koehn. They were blessed with 6 sons and one daughter, all born in California. The enjoyed nearly 58 years together.
They lived in various congregations, moving to Walker, Missouri in 1968, from Livingston, California, then to Geiger, Alabama in 1973. They enjoyed the blessings of their family growing up there and all 7 children were married during this time. They spent 20 years at Monterey, Tennessee, moving there in 1989. He loved Tennessee, working in his fix-it shop repairing things for the community and farming his acreage. He was an asset to his neighbors in helping them wherever he could.
In the early part of this year failing health caused them to submit to moving into an assisted living apartment at Arthur, Illinois to be close the their daughter.
Dad had a strong faith. If at all possible, when church was called, he was there. Dad could repair anything instead of throwing it away. Dad seems to have imparted this ability to his sons. Dad provided well for his family, in more ways than just monetary things. Dad had many friends and was a true friend in return.
Those left to cherish fond memories are his loving wife Dorthy, their children: Roger and Patricia of Emelle, Alabama; Garold and Leah of Hesston, Kansas; Chester and Sandra of Monterey, Tennessee, Donald and Donna of Bloomfield, Iowa; Ronald and Donna of Monterey, Tennessee; Mary and Lonnie Toews of Arthur, Illinois; Alvin and Charmaine of Fulton, Kentucky; 48 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; one sister, Sadie Amoth of Bonners Ferry, Idaho; one brother, Marvin and Sandra of Longmont, Colorado.
