LOWELL E. BERGFIELD, 84, of Arcola, IL was surrounded by his family when he left to be with the Lord he loved at 8:40 P.M. Saturday, November 28, 2009 at his residence.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 A.M. on Tuesday, December 1, 2009 at Arcola Free Methodist Church, 219 North Walnut St. in Arcola, IL. Rev. Walt Truex and Rev. John Higgins officiated. Burial with military rites conducted by the Arcola VFW was held in the Arcola Cemetery. Visitation was held on Monday, November 30, 2009 from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M at the Edwards Funeral Home, 221 East Main, in Arcola, IL.

Lowell was born on July 17, 1925 in Tuscola, IL. He was a son of Elmer Clarence and Lena Lenora (Williams) Bergfield. He married Ruby Wilkins in 1947 in Bridgeport, IL. She passed away in 1961. He later married Ruth Ellis on June 4, 1966 in Bridgeport, IL. She passed away in 2006.

Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Truex and her husband Walt of Arcola, IL and Deborah Taylor and her husband Mike of Centralia, IL; six grandchildren, Josh Truex and his wife Amiee of Arcola, IL, Amber Lenger and her husband Matt of Simpsonville, SC, Andrea Barnfield and her husband Chris of Iuka, IL, Nathan Truex and Lindsey of Charleston, IL, Adam Taylor of St. Louis, Mo and Jenni Truex of Arcola, IL; four great-grandchildren, Mark Truex, Rachel Lenger, Hannah Lenger and Abel Truex, and one more expected in January; one brother Lloyd Bergfield and his wife Phyllis of Arcola, IL and one sister Deanie Rich of Mattoon, IL.

His parents, his wives and one son Steven Lowell Bergfield preceded him in death.

Lowell was a member of the Arcola Free Methodist Church for the past 77 years.

He volunteered to serve in the US Navy during World War II and spent his enlisted time in the South Pacific Ocean.

Except while serving in the Navy, Lowell spent his entire life farming in and around the Arcola area. After he retired from farming, he transported Amish.

Memorials were made to the Arcola Free Methodist Church or Carle Hospice.
