Lucas Steven Otto

Lucas Steven Otto, 20, of Arthur, IL passed away at 1:35 AM on Thursday, June 30, 2022 in Sangamon County, IL.  

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, July 4, 2022 at the Arthur Christian School, 1637 East St. Rt. 133, Arthur, IL.  Pastor Larry Rocke and Pastor Joshua Zoppa will officiate.  Burial will be in the Arthur Cemetery.  Visitation will be held from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Sunday, July 3, 2022 at the Arthur Christian School.  The Edwards Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.

Lucas was born on May 26, 2002 in Mattoon, IL.  He was a son of Steven Eugene and Melissa (Morton) Otto.  

He is survived by his parents, Steve and Melissa Otto of Arthur, IL, one sister, Kailee Otto and one brother, Marcus Otto, both at home.  His paternal grandparents, Paul and Dorothy Otto of Arthur, IL, maternal grandparents, Dale and Joan Morton of Trilla, IL, aunts and uncles, Lynn Etta and her husband Tim Oyer of Dewey, IL, Jo Etta and her husband Scott Dingman of Kalkaska, MI, Gary Otto and his wife Sarah of Mattoon, IL and Jeff Otto and his wife Mallory of Mattoon, IL, and cousins, Christina and Nathan Dingman, and Wesley, Morgan, Carter and Caleb Otto. 

Lucas attended Buck Grove Community Church in Mattoon, IL.

Lucas was a 2020 graduate of ALAH High School, where he was a standout athlete in both football and baseball.  Lucas continued his baseball career as a pitcher at Lake Land College in Mattoon, IL where he received his associate degree in May 2022.  Most recently Lucas was playing on a Collegiate Summer Baseball Team, the Springfield Lucky Horseshoes.

Lucas loved sports and hanging out with friends, but above all family was the most important thing to him.  He loved giving hugs, his signature Lucas Bear Hug, but saved his sweatiest hugs for his Uncle Gary.  His favorite teams were the Dallas Cowboys and the St. Louis Cardinals and loved the fun competition with his grandpa’s favorite team, the Chicago Cubs.  His infectious smile will be missed by many.
