MARGARET ALICE (ELDER) RAY, 65, of Arthur, IL passed away at 4:40 P.M. on Thursday, February 14, 2013 at Mason Point in Sullivan, IL.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, February 18, 2013 at the Vine Street Christian Church, 249 South Vine Street in Arthur, IL. Rev. Dawn Ingram will officiate. Burial will be in the Arthur Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Sunday, February 17, 2013 at the Vine Street Christian Church in Arthur, IL. The Edwards Funeral Home is assisting with the arrangements.
Alice was born July 10, 1947 in Decatur, IL. She was the daughter of Levia and Bernice Graven Elder. She married Jan Lee Ray on July 17, 1970 at First Christian Church in Sullivan, IL.
She is survived by daughter, Janet Ray of Arthur, IL; brother, Lynn (Nancy) Elder of Sullivan, IL; sister, Ann (Doug) Elder of Sycamore, IL; sister-n-law, Sharon Elder Huntley, IL; daughter-n –law, Jama Ray of Bethany, IL; three grandchildren, Madeline, Lauren and Vincent Ray.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her son, Jason Ray and her brother, Jim Elder.
Alice was a member of the Vine Street Christian Church and served as church deacon and CWF member.
She was a graduate of Sullivan High School and Eureka College.
She taught for over thirty years in the Bethany and Atwood school systems.
Her life centered around family and friends. She enjoyed playing cards with her friends and reading to her grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
