MARJORY ARMINTA BROWN, 88, of Mattoon, IL passed away at 11:05 P.M. on Wednesday, June 29, 2011 at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center in Mattoon, IL.
A visitation will be held from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Friday, July 8, 2011 at the Edwards Funeral Home in Arcola, IL. A graveside funeral will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, July 9, 2011 at the Edgewood Cemetery, in Edgewood, IL.
Marjory was born on April 28, 1923 in Edgewood, IL. She was a daughter of Dewey Clifford and Edith Maggie (Landreth) Edwards. She married Oscar Maple in 1943. She married John Brown in 1965, and he passed away in August 1980.
She is survived by her four children, Larry Maple and his wife Phyllis of St. Peters, MO., Monty Maple and his wife Traudel of Rockenhausen, Germany, Gordon Maple and his wife Lisann of Mattoon, IL. and Dawn Maple of Mattoon, IL; four siblings, Lulabelle Frances Mason, IL, Barb Wardell and her husband Harry of Bells, TX, Nelda Holmes and her husband Jim of Gilbertsville, KY, and Dewey Edwards Jr. and his wife Pauline of CO; and 13 grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband John, her parents, one daughter, Kathy Armer two brothers, Don and Ross Edwards, and two sisters, Burnice Woolridge and Cleo Pauline “Cindy” Carroll.
During WWII, she built bomber hatches at Paradise. Marjory retired as a machinist from Blaw Knox in Mattoon after several years. She also worked as a bartender at Geno’s and Pat’s Lounge, both in Mattoon, IL.
She enjoyed her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed making afghans and needlework for her children and grandchildren.
