MARTHA BENNETT, 92, of Humboldt, IL passed away at 3:55 A.M. on Wednesday, December 29, 2010 at the Odd Fellow-Rebekah Home in Mattoon, IL.
Graveside funeral services were held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, January 3, 2011 at the Humboldt Cemetery. The Edwards Funeral Home assisted Martha’s family with arrangements.
Martha was born on July 9, 1918 in Hutton Township near Charleston, IL on the Cox Centennial Farm. She was a daughter of Claude Francis and Lillie (Fletcher) Cox. She married Willis D. Bennett on February 25, 1953 in Corinth, MS. He passed away on May 20, 2007
She is survived by her daughter Susan Turner of Humboldt, IL; one grandson Ian Boothby of Humboldt, IL; several nieces, nephews and great nieces and great nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers, Lester Cox and Ross Cox and one sister, Maydean Baily.
Martha grew up South of Charleston, IL. After she married Willis, they lived East of Humboldt, IL and later west of Humboldt, IL where they lived for over forty years.
She was a farm wife; she enjoyed sewing, cooking and spending time with family and friends.
She was a member of the Rebekah’s.
In lieu of flowers memorials were made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
