MARTHA HAMILTON, 84, of Sullivan, IL passed away at 6:20 A.M. on Friday, August 2, 2013 at Mason Point in Sullivan, IL.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Monday, August 5, 2013 at the Edwards Funeral Home, 221 E. Main St. in Arcola. Rev. Jess Adams will officiate. Burial will be in the Janesville Cemetery in Lerna, IL. Visitation will be held two hours prior to the funeral at the funeral home.

Martha was born February 22, 1929 in Mattoon, IL. She was a daughter of Raymond Everett and Mary Francis (Beavers) Hampton. She married Harry Leland Hamilton on August 22, 1947 in Coles County. He passed away January 23, 1989.

She is survived by two daughters, Karen Hall of Sullivan, IL and Cathy Hall and her husband John of Mattoon, IL; four grandchildren, Michelle Nolen and her husband Tim of Sullivan, IL, Selena Withrow and her husband Scott of Center Point, IN, Harold Hall and his wife Jennifer of Gays, IL and Martha Hall-Abbott of Mattoon, IL; seven great-grandchildren, William and Michael Nolen of Sullivan, IL, Johnathan, Zachary and Courtney Hall of Gays, IL and Samuel and Lucas Abbott of Mattoon, IL; a special niece and nephew, William and Grace Hampton of Charleston, IL; honorary grandchildren Jim and Jenna Belcher.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two stillborn siblings and siblings, Albert, Fred, Clarence, and Leo Hampton, Louella Hampton, Marion Hayward, June Malone, and Kathleen McQuin.

Martha had been a seamstress at Crawford’s, making baby garments for many years. She was a playground supervisor for Hawthorne Grade School in Mattoon, IL. She also worked for Lincoln Land Visiting Nurses.

She was a member of the Middle Cross Cowboy Church in Arthur, IL and sang on the radio WLBH in 1948. She had a great passion for sewing and crocheting. Martha spent endless hours watching westerns and reading books. She enjoyed listening to the Gunny Sack Review and spending time with friends and family, especially great-grandchildren.
