MARVIN JAMES “AB” ABERNATHY, 68, of Charleston, IL passed away at 5:00 A.M. on Tuesday, January 24, 2012 at his residence in Charleston, IL.
Ab was born on July 19, 1943 in Bicknell, IN. He was a son of Marvin A. and Mattie (Gibbs) Abernathy. He married Melody Ann Brady on April 23, 1983 in Charleston, IL.
He is survived by his wife Melody Abernathy of Charleston, IL; two sons, Marvin James Abernathy II and his wife Carrie of Ashmore, IL and Jason Aaron Abernathy of Ashmore, IL; two grandsons, Marvin James Abernathy III and Zachary Jason Abernathy; three brothers, Paul Abernathy of Charleston, IL, Sam Abernathy of Coon Rapids, MN and Ormond Perry of Vallejo, CA; three sisters, Betty Cooley of Keithsburg, IL Nancy Hudson and her husband Ed and Mary Ashmore all of Charleston, IL; his mother-in-law, Joanne Brady of Charleston, IL; two brother-in-laws, Rick Brady of Charleston, IL and Donald Brady of Ashmore, IL a sister-in-law, Connie Hayes of Bushton, IL and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one son Jeremiah James Eubank and one brother, Otto Abernathy.
Ab worked as a roofer for several years. He also had managed the Eagles Club in Charleston. He enjoyed keeping up with current events by watching the news on TV and he liked to watch sports of all kinds. When he was younger he loved to play baseball. Ab along with Marty Patton, both were well known as being two of the best pitchers in the area. Ab also enjoyed bowling and was very good at it. Music was his passion; he sang in the band “Flat Busted” for several years and always admired the music of country music legend Waylon Jennings.
Ab loved his family and will be missed by all who knew him.
