Mary Bumpus

MARY BUMPUS, 92, Normal, IL formerly of Champaign, IL passed away at 10:35 P.M. on Monday, April 28, 2008 at BroMen Healthcare in Bloomington, IL.

Mary was born on March 17, 1916 in Humboldt, IL. She was a daughter of Charles Jasper and Leathia Pearl (Cox) Newman. She married William Dean Bumpus on August 31, 1940 in St. Louis, MO. He passed away on November 26, 1984.

She is survived by one son, Dale Bumpus and his wife Susan of Normal, IL; one sister, Martha Fincher of Baltimore, MD; two grandsons, Britton and Cole Bumpus of Normal, IL and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, seven brothers, three that were infants and four others; John, Earl, Robert and Charles Newman and one infant sister.

Mary was a member of the First Baptist Church of Champaign in Savoy, IL of which she had been very active. She graduated from Burnham School of Nursing in 1937. She worked as a registered nurse for over fifty years. She retired from Carle Hospital in Urbana in 1982 with over fifteen years of service. She enjoyed needlework crocheting, gardening, flowers and camping.
