Mary Spelman

MARY SPELMAN, 86, of Fontana, CA and formerly of Mattoon, IL passed away at 5:07 a.m. Wednesday, January 16, 2008 at The Legacy Post Acute Rehabilitation Center in San Bernardino, CA.

Mary was born on March 2, 1921 in Estell Springs, Tennessee. She was a daughter of James Glenn and Mary Ethel (McBride) Finney, She married Marion Keith "Red" Spelman on January 31, 1942 in Georgia. He passed away in April of 1983.

Survivors include one daughter, Harriett Spelman of Fontana, CA; two grandchildren, David Spelman and his wife, Adriana of Arcola, IL and Angie Spelman of Phoenix, AZ; five great-grandchildren, Sydney, Faith and Taylor Spelman of Arcola, IL, Brandi Hernandez of Phoenix, AZ and Bailee Moore of Prescott Valley, AZ; two brothers, David K. Finney of Santee, CA and Albert Finney of Bradenton, FL and several nieces and nephews.

Her parents, her husband, her son, David Spelman and one sister, Velma Finney preceded her in death.

Mary was a member of the Marshall Avenue Christian Church in Mattoon. She was also a member of the Eagles in Mattoon.

Mary worked from 1963 until she retired at the age of 65 at J. C. Penny in Mattoon in the Fine Jewelry Department. She also worked as a volunteer for the American Red Cross. She enjoyed quilting and spending time with her family and friends.
