MAURIE LEE BETTINGER, 69 of Farmer City, IL passed away at 1:42 P.M. on Thursday, February 2, 2023, at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, IL.
Graveside services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, February 11, 2023 in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Farmer City. Pastor David Ashby will officiate. The Edwards Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.
Maurie was born on April 26, 1953, in Charleston, IL, a son of Charles W. and Edna Grace (Warren) Bettinger II. He married Dana Jean Scarbrough on February 11, 1994 in Farmer City.
He is survived by his wife, Dana; seven children, Eric Bettinger and his wife Tracy of Lovington, IL, Yvonne McClure and her husband Andy of Clarksville, TN, Aaron Bettinger and his wife Robin of Monticello, IL, Justin Bettinger and his wife Stephanie of Oakley, IL, Danielle Bettinger of Farmer City, IL, Zachary Schavey and his husband Nick of Murfreesboro, TN, and Brittany Bettinger of Farmer City, IL; fifteen grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Cindy Bettinger of Charleston, IL and a nephew, Mark Bettinger and his wife Jen of Charleston, IL.
He was preceded in death by his Parents, Charles and Edna Bettinger, his brother, Charles W. “Chuck” Bettinger IV, a sister-in-law, Beth Bettinger, and two nephews, Charles W. Bettinger V and Christopher Bettinger.
Maurie grew up in Charleston, IL with his brother, Chuck. Their dad died in 1959 so they were raised by their mother with the help of her parents.
Maurie had a strong work ethic, he drove a truck for many years and retired from Mike Bushman Trucking.
Maurie enjoyed riding motorcycles, watching NASCAR. His greatest joy in life simply came from being around his family, especially his grandchildren. He really enjoyed sitting on the front porch in his rocking chair watching the grandchildren play.
Maurie’s family would like to thank the Doctors and Nurses at Carle Foundation Hospital for their exceptional care extended to Maurie and a Very Special, Heartfelt Thank You goes out to Robert Scarbrough, Donna Scarbrough and Tina Cole for all your help; as well as all our friends and family who have prayed for us during Maurie’s illness and since he has passed.
