Melvin Schrock

MELVIN SCHROCK, 86, of Arcola, IL passed away at 2:30 A.M. on Tuesday, April 24, 2018 at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center in Mattoon, IL.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, April 28, 2018 at the Edwards Funeral Home, 221 East Main St. in Arcola, IL.  Rev. Darin Elder will officiate.  Burial will follow in the Arcola Cemetery.  Visitation will be held from 4:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. on Friday, April 27, 2018 at the funeral home.

Melvin was born on February 6, 1932 in Arcola, IL.  He was a son of Elmer J. and Fannie (Plank) Schrock.  He married Roberta Simpson on December 19, 1964 in Las Vegas, NV.  She passed away on May 1, 1999.  He later married Shirley (Shaw) Swisher on January 5, 2001 in Bullhead City, AZ.  She passed away on October 17, 2014.

Survivors include one son, Joe Schrock and his wife Jennifer of Ooltewah, TN, one daughter, Cindy Rendle and her husband Jim of Quyon, Quebec, Canada, one step-daughter Sherry Shults of Bloomfield, MO, seven grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and five sisters, Katie Ann Schrock of Champaign, IL, Alta Miller of Arcola, IL, Leah Otto and her husband Jeff of Cherry Box, MO, Christina Hanson and her husband Harold of Kansas City MO, and Irma Yoder and her husband Monroe of Indianapolis, IN.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his two wives, a daughter, Debbie Prigge, and two step-sons, Robert Schrock and Kenneth Sorenson.

Melvin was an Army Veteran of the Korean War.

Melvin worked as a contractor from 1967 until 1993.  He contracted out to Imperial Homes and Hayworth Homes in Charleston, IL and IBC Homes in Mattoon, IL.  Building was a true passion for him.

After retirement Melvin became a farmer full time and that was considered his biggest hobby.

Melvin was a member of Eagle Mountain Assembly of God in Tuscola, IL.

Melvin was a humble and compassionate soul and will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
