Merle H. Stutzman, 69, of Arthur, IL passed away at 10:24 PM on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center in Mattoon, IL.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. and 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Sunday, January 19, 2025, at Penn Station, 122 East Progress Street in Arthur, IL. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, January 20, 2025, at Penn Station. Pastor Doug Davis will officiate. Burial will be in the Arthur Cemetery. The Edwards Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.
Merle was born on November 10, 1955, in Arthur, IL. He was the son of William Henry and Ella (Plank) Stutzman. He married Debbie A. Risley on January 8, 1977, in Arthur, IL.
He is survived by his wife, Debbie Stutzman of Arthur, IL, three children, Amy Stutzman of Arthur, IL, twins, Jennifer Stutzman of Garrett, IL and Jason Stutzman and his wife Meranda of Arthur, IL, four grandchildren Andrew Shawn Maxwell, Piper Elizabeth Quick, Christian Isaiah Stutzman, and Ruby Stutzman, one great-grandson, Kendrick Angel Maxwell, two brothers, Clarence Stutzman and his wife Annie of Humboldt, IL, and Eli Stutzman and his wife Fannie of Garrett, IL, four sisters, Fannie Mae Chupp and her husband Reuben of Arthur, IL, Clara Beachy of Sullivan, IL, Marie Otto of Arthur, IL, and Irma Stutzman of Arthur, IL.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers-in-law, Wayne Otto, and Dan Beachy.
Merle worked at Schrock Drywall for several years before pursuing his dream job of being a truck driver. In 2002 after his twins graduated from High School, he began driving semi-trucks. He drove for several local companies before accepting a position with Rural King. He retired from Rural King in 2023 and most recently worked with Honn Farms in Arthur, IL.
Merle was a member of the Arthur Lions Club. He enjoyed collecting horse memorabilia and scale horse models. He enjoyed fishing and was an avid Chicago Cub fan. His greatest joy came from spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
