Nelson S. Kauffman, 80 of Humboldt, IL passed away peacefully at 5:00 PM on Wednesday, October 9, 2024 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, IL surrounded by his family.
Funeral services will be held at 9:00 AM on Sunday, October 13, 2024 at the HCK West Building, one mile south of Arthur, IL. Bishop Lamar Miller will officiate. Burial will follow in the Yoder Cemetery. Visitation will be held anytime after 2:00 PM on Friday, October 11, 2024 and anytime after 10:00 AM on Saturday, October 12, 2024 all at the HCK West Building. The Edwards Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.
Nelson was born on August 21, 1944 in Arthur, IL. He was a son of Steve A. and Katie Ann (Yoder) Kauffman. On August 26, 1971, Nelson married Alta Mast. She passed away on August 26, 1996, they lived in matrimony for 25 years. To this union were born 5 sons and 3 daughters. He married Ella Marie Schrock on May 31, 2001, and they lived in matrimony for 23 years.
He is survived by his wife, Ella Kauffman of Humboldt, IL, 8 children, Carol Kuhns and her husband Vernon of Sullivan, IL, David Kauffman and his wife Pauline of Sullivan, IL, Noah Kauffman and his wife Christina of Humboldt, IL, Steve Kauffman and his wife Rachael of Stewart, TN, Maggie Roberts and her husband Jesse of Arcola, IL, Mark Kauffman and his wife Elaine of New Paris, IN, Katie Gingerich and her husband Allen of Humboldt, IL and John Kauffman and his wife Kalyn of Mattoon, IL, 23 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, 5 brothers and 4 sisters, Kenneth Kauffman and his wife Annie of Tuscola, IL, Jake Kauffman of Arcola, IL, Joe Kauffman of Arthur, IL, Clare Miller of Arthur, IL Ben Kauffman and his wife Pauline of Lovington, IL, Irene Kauffman of Arthur, IL, George Kauffman and his wife Lorene of Arthur, IL, Mary Kauffman of Arthur, IL and Louise Herschberger and her husband Wilmer of Arthur, IL.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Alta J. Kauffman, 1 stillborn sister, 1 brother-in-law, Melvin Miller, 2 sisters-in-law, Edna Kauffman and Fannie Kauffman.
Nelson was a member of the Old Order Amish Church.
