OSCAR R. “DICK” POORMAN, 84, of Humboldt, IL passed away at 6:20 A.M. on Saturday, July 14, 2012 at his home.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Thursday, July 19, 2012 at the Edwards Funeral Home in Arcola, IL. Burial with Military rites will be in the Humboldt Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Wednesday, July 18, 2012 at the funeral home.
Dick was born on April 20, 1928 in Humboldt, IL. He was a son of Glenn M. and Marie (Munson) Poorman. He married Peggy Ann Helm on July 19, 1969 at the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Cooks Mills, IL.
He is survived by his wife Peggy of Humboldt, IL; one son Darren Poorman of
Arcola, IL; one daughter, Jodi Smith and her husband Doug of Villa Grove, IL; four grandchildren, Kathryn Elizabeth Poorman, Parker Richard Poorman, Regan Ann Smith and Blake Douglas Smith; two brothers, Joseph W. Poorman and his wife Joan of Humboldt, IL and Albert Earl Poorman and his wife Lisa of Kearney, NE; one sister, Ruth Duncan of Tavares, FL; one brother-in-law Fred Helm and his wife Wilma; five sisters-in-law Marilyn Eastin and her husband Dean, Eva Sue Spence and her husband Mike, Lesley Jo Niemeyer and her husband Dave all of Humboldt, IL, Ginger Mills of Neoga, IL, and Shelly Tingley and her husband Rick of Ankeny, IA; several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great nephews and great-great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Edwin and Russell Poorman; one sister Glendolyn Butler, four brothers-in-law Henry, Thomas, and Kenneth Helm and Bill Mills; two sisters-in-law Teri Helm and Carolyn Donnell.
Dick was a member of the American Legion, previously a member of the Moose; he served as a board member of the Kaskaskia Country Club and had been a member of Kaskaskia Country Club for forty-three years. He spent many years playing golf every afternoon in Arcola and has made a hole in one two times. He was an avid fan of St. Louis Cardinal Baseball, Illini Basketball and NASCAR. He enjoyed the outdoors and his puzzles. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family.
He was a U.S. Army Veteran and worked for the U.S. Postal Service for forty-three years, retiring in 1988.
