Biography

PALMIRA PHILLIPS, 77, of Mattoon, IL passed away at 1:23 P.M. on Monday, April 30, 2012 at her residence in Mattoon, IL

Palmira was born on April 13, 1935 in Giulianello, Italy. She was a daughter of Vito and Angela (Pietrosanti) Fiasco.

She is survived by two sons, Ronald Hammock of Mattoon, IL and Robert Priolo of West Covina, CA; three grandchildren, Robert Priolo Jr., Monica Priolo and Anthony Priolo all of West Covina, CA and one sister, Alessandra Fiasco of Giulianello, Italy.

She was preceded in death by her parents, four husbands, two brothers, one sister, two children, Remo Marchetti and Anthony Vincent Hammock and her very good friend Edith Casteel.

Palmira came to the United States with her first husband. They were married in Italy and came to New York. They had one son, Remo Marchetti. After her first husband passed away she met and married Mr. Priolo in California, they had a son, Robert Priolo who still lives in California. She later married Mr. Hammock they had two sons, Anthony and Ronald Hammock, and she later married Mr. Phillips who has preceded her in death.

During this time Palmira had worked at various casinos. She had worked as a cashier at the Ramada Express Casino in Laughlin, NV for over fourteen years.

She returned to Giulianello, Italy in the late 1980s to spend some time with her family. She returned to the United States in 2010 and lived with her son Ron which was close to her best friend Edith Casteel whom she has known for more than forty years.

Palmira had always worked hard. She enjoyed spending time with Edith Casteel and her family; both families became very close, they would spend holidays together, they would often times celebrate birthdays and special events together as well as boating and camping trips together.

Palmira was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Mattoon, IL.

At Palmira’s request, her ashes will be taken to Giulianello, Italy to be placed in the Fiasco Family Mausoleum. The Edwards Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.
