Rebecca “Becky” Susanna (Clemmons) Stubbs, 31, of Normal went home to be with her Lord and Savior at 12:01 A.M. on Thursday, May 30, 2013 at Advocate BroMenn Regional Medical Center, in Normal, IL with her family and friends by her side.
Visitation was from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Sunday, June 2, 2013 at the Eastview Christian Church, 1500 Airport Road in Normal, IL. Funeral services were held at 1:00 P.M. on Monday, June 3, 2013 at the Eastview Christian Church. Pastor Mike Baker officiated. Burial was in the Evergreen Memorial Cemetery in Bloomington, IL. The Edwards Funeral Home assisted with arrangements. Memorials were made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Busey Bank for friend Aimee Kidwell's future lung transplant expenses, Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer research or Eastview Christian Church for mission trips.
Becky was born on November 25, 1981 in Normal, the daughter of R. Gene and Karen S. (Ringenberg) Clemmons. Becky married her best friend and biggest supporter, Adam Jacob “Jake” Stubbs on October 16, 2004. They shared a love that only grew deeper as Becky’s genetic illness, cystic fibrosis, progressed. After a double-lung transplant in 2010 Jake showed even more love as he continued to care for and love his wife after a stroke caused her to lose short-term memory. She often remarked that Jake was a gift from God sent for her.
She was loved well by her parents who passed on their strong faith in the God of the Bible and taught her that Christ was using her illness for a greater purpose. Her favorite scripture was John 9:3, which says that God uses what we see as a curse as a way to display His power and love to those around us.
She was overwhelmed with love by her sister Staci (Morey) Cannady of Northglenn, CO and brother Matthew (Christina) Clemmons of Atlanta, IL. She took special pride in her nieces, Chantelle Mahkayla “Munchkin” Clemmons, and Erin Olivia "Peanut" Cannady. After feeling like a part of the Stubbs family since 1999, she quickly grew to love Larry and Teri Stubbs of Bloomington, IL, Aaron (Sarah) Stubbs of Roanoke, VA; Selena (Brian) Hacker of Monticello, IL, Elissa Stubbs of Bloomington, and Courtney Stubbs of Los Angeles, CA. Nieces Norah Hacker, Lydia Hacker, Abby Stubbs, and nephew, Owen Hacker were a great joy for her.
Longtime friend, Kati Knowlton and her husband, Eric were a great source of support and love for Becky. Their love and friendship throughout the years were a testimony of their love for God and God’s people. Their children, Malaki, Karis, and Ezekiel were Becky’s godchildren for which she loved and prayed. Their family had a very special place in her heart.
Becky lived her life to glorify God through her illness. She never saw it as a burden but as a gift of God that He used to reach those who did not yet know Him. At the end she was not fearful or troubled, but overcome with joy at the thought of seeing her Savior face to face.
Becky was preceded in death by her grandparents, and her aunt, Barbara Leeper Harrison.
(Becky wrote her own obituary.)
